At least two of the banks I work with offer free methods to check my credit score online.

I say at least I have accounts in many banks, but I haven’t visited them all recently. But if you want to check your credit score, know that you have some go-to options. what about you?

Your credit score is becoming more and more important as an indicator of how you’re managing your life, not just your debt. Of course, the lender will check your credit score. Landlords, insurance companies and future employers can also be considered.

Given the importance of your credit score, it’s important to check where you stand at least once a year. For ideas on where to find your score for free, I Asked people in my Twitter community what do they do Check the reply for a wide range of options including:

  • Bank websites and mobile apps: Bank of Montreal, Bank of Nova Scotia, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, and Royal Bank of Canada are among the banks that offer access to your credit score.
  • Equifax: This credit bureau free entry and exit to your credit score.
  • Borrowell: An online marketplace for loans and other financial products.
  • credit karma: Match financial products with you and receive a referral fee.
  • Verified .Me: Interac’s service that helps verify your identity online. Toronto-Dominion Bank offers access to credit scores through this channel.

credit score range 300-900, 760 or higher is considered excellent. Between 660 and 724 is considered good, and 725 to 759 is very good.

Use the free credit score as a rough guide for your credit score. Lenders and others may access slightly different numbers when connecting to Equifax or TransUnion, another major Canadian credit reporting company.

Checking your credit score online is considered a “soft inquiry.” In other words, it doesn’t affect your score. A “hard scrutiny” where the lender evaluates you as a client is another story. Multiple hard inquiries can lower your credit score.
