Metrolinx launches new text service for GO Train, UP Express riders to report safety concerns

GO Transit and UP Express passengers can now text Metrolinx for help with safety concerns during their commute.

To report an immediate concern, transit riders can send “HELP” to 77777. A member of Metrolinx’s Customer Protection Services team will respond within his 90 seconds. The team can also be reached by phone at 1-877-297-0642.

“Safety is at your fingertips,” reads the flyer announcing Metrolinx’s new support system. “Help is one text away.”

so News release issued on January 31the transit agency said its team will dispatch support or local police services to address safety concerns as needed.

Metrolinx said the new service will be available on Monday and will allow trains and buses, stations and bus loops on GO Transit and UP Express.

The transit agency notes that it is not possible to receive video or images through this service at this time and asks customers to send text-only concerns.

The announcement of the new text service comes as the Toronto Transportation Commission (TTC) and Toronto Police Service (TPS) deploy more staff and officers throughout the transit system each day. The additions are the result of a surge in violent attacks against TTC employees and passengers.
