St. John’s Councillor Calling on Government to Establish a Safe Injection Site

A St. Johns City Council member is calling on both the state government and Eastern Health to establish safe injection sites in the capital.

Ophelia Ravencroft drafted a letter addressed to Minister Tom Osborne and Eastern Health CEO Kenneth Baird.

Ravencroft says he was informed of a fentanyl-contaminated drug in the St. Johns area a few weeks ago.

She touts the benefits of the naloxone kit, but thinks more needs to be done.

Ravencroft says she’s heard strong support for the establishment of overdose prevention centers, also known as safe injection sites. She says such facilities help keep everyone safe. .

She says the ball is in court for government/eastern health.
