Canada paramedic unknowingly treated daughter in fatal crash

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — A Canadian paramedic who unknowingly treated his own daughter after a fatal car accident wiped away tears remembering the beautiful girl who fought to the end.

Jayme Erickson was called to the crash site north of Calgary on November 15 and sat with a seriously injured girl. The girl was rescued from her car and she was taken to the hospital, where she died. She was unrecognizable due to her injuries.

By the end of the day, until Erickson returned home, she was met by a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer who told her the patient was her 17-year-old daughter, Montana.

Ericsson shared her grief with reporters late Tuesday, describing her daughter as an avid swimmer who was successful in everything she set her mind to and aspired to become a lawyer.

“She was a fighter, she fought to the death and she was beautiful. She was so beautiful. Erickson said at the Airdrie fire station where her family, paramedics, police and firefighters stood behind her showing support. Told.

My friend Richard Reid, an air paramedic, broke down multiple times when he told of Ericsson being present when his car lost control and was rear-ended by an oncoming vehicle.

Reed said the driver was able to get out of the car, but the female passenger was seriously injured. Ericsson is the first person to appear on the scene. He said that Ericsson knew the girl was in trouble and that he sat there until he was rescued and taken to the hospital by ambulance, but he still didn’t know who it was.

“On the way home, she expressed her grief and frustration to her partner. She knew that later the family might lose their daughters, sisters and grandchildren. Shortly after arriving home, there was a knock on the door. It was the RCMP,” Reed said.

“On entering the room, to her horror, she found alive the girl she had sat with in the back of her rumpled car. The family was able to say goodbye… daughter,” he said. added. “Jamie unknowingly kept his daughter alive.”
