Coquihalla expected to be close for several hours due to ‘police incident’ – BC News

A police incident on the Coquihala Highway appears to involve a stolen pickup truck.

Tik Tok user Curtis Brown Posted video A black pickup truck drives along the Coldwater River near the Juliet Bridge on the Coquihala Highway on Wednesday. Brown says an “armed suspect” left the stolen truck in the river and fled the area.

Another Castanet reader reported that a vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint.

In an earlier press release, Sgt. RCMP’s Chris Manseau said a large number of police were heading to the Juliet Bridge area, suggesting the suspect or suspects are on the run.

RCMP officers with long guns are stopping cars in the area. The highway remains closed in both directions from Merritt to Hope. There is no prospect of reopening.

Sergeant Mansoor said “a large number of police resources from the surrounding area” are deployed in the Juliet Bridge area of ​​Coquihala, about 50 kilometers south of Merritt. A vehicle from the RCMP emergency response team was seen leaving West Kelowna, presumably on its way to the incident.

“Public citizens in the area are asked to avoid the area and refrain from posting police actions online,” Sgt. Mansoor said.

According to Castanet readers, at least nine RCMP emergency response team vehicles recently left West Kelowna and headed for the Coquihala Highway.
