York Local Police have charged the family of a two-month-old baby after they were found seriously injured at the Markham Hotel on Tuesday.
Police and paramedics responded to a report of an injured infant at 8900 Woodbine Avenue, north of Highway 7, just after 2:00 p.m.
They arrived to find a baby with “very serious” injuries inside a hotel room. The child was taken to hospital, where he is in critical condition.
A 61-year-old man was detained at the scene, police said. On Wednesday, police said a man from China had been charged with attempted murder.
Because the accused is a family member, police have not released his name to protect the identity of the baby and witnesses. Is not …
Police said other family members were in the hotel room at the time of the incident, and one of them called 911.
“The victim of a crime can never be identified, even if there is a small boy as the victim. There are also eyewitnesses who believe it could be a family member,” said Const. Laura Nicol.
“It’s a challenge for us. Obviously, we want to make as much information available to the public as possible, but we also need to protect the integrity of the investigation and we have to be very sensitive.” No. Additional family members and victims.”
Few details have been released about the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the baby was injured.
Police continue to urge anyone with information to contact Special Victims Unit investigators at extension 1-866-876-5423. 7071 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).
