Former interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen to step down as MP

MP and former interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen will resign from her House of Commons later this week, a source told CBC News.

Bergen has been a Member of Parliament since 2008.

MP and former interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen will resign from her House of Commons later this week, a source told CBC News.

Bergen, 58, has represented Manitoba’s Portage Lisgar since 2008. From her February 2022 she served as Interim Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition until September 2022. Prior to that, she was the Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party.

The Toronto Star was the first to report this story.

Bergen announced last September that she would not seek re-election.Pierre Polivre replace her as leader of the Conservative Party that month.

This news means there will be a by-election in Portage. Lisgar replaces Bergen.
