A 1-year-old escaped a hit-and-run after his mother’s stroller was hit by a car while crossing the road last week in Montreal’s Outremont borough, police said.

The incident was captured by surveillance cameras outside the home of a resident at the intersection of Bloomfield and Lajoie streets near the crash site. The video was posted online as members of the community were shocked by the incident and hope police will find the driver.

The video shows the driver slowly approaching the intersection, but instead of stopping at the stop sign, the vehicle continues driving and pushing the stroller out into the street. , It does not appear to have been hit by a vehicle.

The homeowner who recorded the video confirmed to CTV News that it was recorded on the afternoon of November 16.

Paramedics and Montreal police said they received a 911 call at about 2:40 p.m. and responded to the crash site. When police arrived, the mother and child had already been taken to hospital as a precaution. The infant was unharmed.

Police spokesperson Jeanne Drouin said investigators returned shortly after and spoke to witnesses.

“Like everyone else, I am shocked to see this video,” Outtremont Mayor Laurent Desbois tweeted late Tuesday night. “I have been in contact with the SPVM and hope they can quickly identify the driver of the vehicle.”

Police said the suspect’s vehicle was black, but gave no other explanation.

A police investigation is still ongoing.
