Local driver facing weapons, drug, fleeing police charges

Police said the suspect jumped out of the car and tried to flee on foot.

The 35-year-old driver faces multiple charges after Sault Ste. Murray police attempted to stop traffic early this morning.

Police said officers attempted to stop traffic on Wellington Street West around 2:30 am, but the driver failed to stop and dizzy and fled the area.

The driver allegedly fled the door while the vehicle was in motion, fled the area on foot, and the vehicle crashed into a telephone pole at the 300 block of Beverly Street.

Officers located and arrested the accused in the 300 block of Beverly.

A search of the suspect found brass knuckles, a hatchet, a small amount of what appeared to be heroin, suspected cocaine, and drug paraphernalia, police said.

As a result of the investigation, Tyler Ross was charged with:

  • dangerous operation
  • escape from police
  • Don’t keep promises – don’t occupy the driver’s seat of a car
  • Not obeying release order (x5)
  • Possession of Weapons for Dangerous Purposes (x2)
  • have hidden weapons
  • Possession of controlled substances (x2)
  • Driving a car under suspension – under HTA
