Waterloo Local Police say the arrests were made after a gunshot was fired in Kitchener’s Kingsway Drive area on Wednesday night.
Police said they were called into a brawl involving four adult men before 9 p.m., during which a gun was fired.
The two, who told CTV News they were at a nearby pizzeria at the time, said they heard what they believed to be violence outside and fled out the back door.
“I told my friend to get off and he told me to jump on the counter so they both ran out the back of the pizza place,” one person told CTV News. I heard a few sirens, and then I saw a police car.”
His friend was stunned by the whole incident.
“It was very shocking because you don’t see things like this very often.”
An employee of Cash 4 You, a woman who was near the shooting site, told CTV News that the front glass door was broken by gunshots during the fighting.
We replaced the glass in the morning and reopened the store on Thursday afternoon.
One of the men involved in the altercation suffered minor injuries, police said.
All those involved have been identified and there are no public safety concerns, police said.
A 38-year-old man from Kitchener was arrested and charged with:
- careless use of firearms
- carrying concealed weapons
- Possession of weapons for dangerous purposes
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of prohibited or restricted firearms with ammunition
