A woman was stabbed to death in Milton on Tuesday afternoon, and Halton County Police said a suspect had been arrested.

Officers responded to the Gosford Crescent residence around 5:45 p.m. after someone reported being stabbed, said police spokesperson Const. Ryan Anderson.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Anderson said officers arrived at the house and found the female victim with life-threatening injuries.

The victim was taken to hospital but was later confirmed dead.

Police then posted on social media the suspect’s identity and photos they were looking for to identify him.

In the post, police said the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Asad Rasheed, was driving a Toyota RAV4.

Ryan later admitted to arresting Rasheed “not far” from the scene. He added police were not looking for other suspects.

“I would say that the victim and suspect knew each other,” Ryan said, but did not elaborate on their relationship or whether they lived in the house.

He also said there was no threat to public safety.

When asked who exactly called the police, Ryan declined to provide details about the person’s identity or relationship to the victim or suspect.

As for the charges, he said none have been formally charged at this time.
