Ontario job seekers increasingly looking for work in other provinces: Indeed

Ontario job seekers are increasingly looking for jobs in other provinces, especially in remote-friendly sectors such as technology, according to a new report.

By the second half of 2022, 6.1% of Ontario-based job seekers clicking on Canadian jobs were for jobs in other provinces, according to a job search firm.

This is almost a 50% increase from late 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the labor market.

Interest in moving to British Columbia and Nova Scotia spiked early in the pandemic, but Alberta has since led an increase in clicks from Ontario job seekers, according to Indeed.

Growing outbound interest from Ontario is particularly strong in remotely-friendly jobs such as technology and marketing.

According to Indeed, this trend not only points to a growing interest in moving out of Ontario, which is also reflected in Statistics Canada’s immigration data, but also the impact of the pandemic on remote work. has also been highlighted, expanding the geographic reach of white-collar job searches.
