Kelsey Grammer brings back Dr. Frasier Crane.
He is doing a revival of the hit series “Frasier,” which ran on NBC from 1993-2004.
he told People magazine Rehearsals begin in February for the show, which has been in development for “about six or seven years.”
“It was on the slow burner,” Grammer said. “We thought it wasn’t a bad idea, maybe it was a good idea!”
He said the plan was to bring the original cast back for the revival and to stream it on Paramount+. .
Grammer said David Hyde Pierce has opted out of returning as Frasier’s brother.
“David basically decided he wasn’t really interested in repeating Niles’ performance,” Grammer said.
That’s not a bad thing, he said.
“In a very funny way, it took us to a new place. ‘It’s a whole new life for him.'”
He said the new show would honor characters who weren’t there.
“For the fact that I had a brother, I’m definitely going to address it,” Grammer said. “But a new world for Frasier is one of new friendships. The new twists and turns of was still there.”
