Director James Mangold also shared his motivation for the film, saying it became important to him to understand how to make a film “about heroes at sunset.”
“It became very important to me to figure out how to make this a movie about heroes at sunset,” Mangold said. I didn’t realize it was featured in the material being developed at the time, there were some “old” jokes, but the material itself wasn’t all about it. To me, whatever your greatest responsibility is, you should fly straight toward it.
