Chris Hemsworth seems to like a challenge, judging by his new National Geographic series Limitless. An actor is not one to back down from tackling the challenges at hand.
That said, the Thor star faced a different kind of challenge heading into George Miller’s highly anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa.
Actors Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron have previously spoken out about the difficulties Miller faced regarding the long and arduous production of ‘Fury Road’ as he did not provide a traditional script for the film. “Find” them in film and post-production.
That wasn’t the case here, as Hemsworth had a finished script and plenty of time to work on his villainous Warlord Dementus. He’s previously played bad guys in movies like Elle Bad Times in His Royale and Perfect His Getaway, but the lengthy lead-up to filming left Hemsworth somewhat rattled.
“I often get a script, and from the first time I read it, the second time I read it, I knew who the characters were and I was like, ‘Okay, I get it,’ and immediately A certain instinctive feeling accompanies it. ‘ I read this two years before we started filming and was in awe of the script. It was the most beautiful thing I have read. I love George Miller, but I had no idea who this character was. “
Hemsworth didn’t say he had finally “found” the character until rehearsals were underway:
“We had about four weeks of rehearsals and started digging and digging into it and things started coming to me. And about two weeks before filming, something clicked. I went oh I think it’s that one I think that’s his move
He says that for up to two years between when he first received the script and when filming began, the actor was plagued with feelings of panic, anxiety and self-doubt, so he was glad he finally found it.
“During the build-up, and something I’ve been talking about for years, I was genuinely scared. Defeat “Mad Max”. It’s my fault. “
Despite being nervous before the shoot, the actual shoot went smoothly for Hemsworth, who said it was “the best experience of my career” and “the thing I’m most proud of.” says.
Furiosa is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
