Two more series were canceled after one season on Hulu, shortly after “Let the Right One In” and “American Gigolo” were canceled on Showtime. Hulu’s ‘Kindred’ and his FX on the streamer’s original series ‘Reboot’.
“Kindred” is based on Octavia E. Butler’s 1979 novel and stars Mallori Johnson as a modern Los Angeles woman who traverses plantations in the 19th century South. Also starring Micah Stock, Ryan Kwanten and Gail Rankin.
The series debuted on December 13th with 8 episodes. Showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (“Watchmen”) envisions a multi-season series and is expected to tour the drama produced by FX Productions.
This is one of FX’s rare one-offs, others include ‘Terriers’, ‘Lights Out’, ‘Y: The Last Man’ and ‘The Bastard Executioner’.
Meanwhile, Hulu also canceled “Modern Family” co-creator Steven Levitan’s meta-satire series “Reboot.” Paul Reiser, Rachel Bloom, Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, Callum Worthy and Judy Greer led the cast.
The series dealt with behind the scenes of the classic sitcom revival of the early 2000s. Along the way, it teased the classic behind-the-scenes drama of the reboot, the modern streaming landscape, and a cast that had previously had serious issues with being forced to reunite.
The series began weekly on September 20th and ended with a cliffhanger in late October. Both shows garnered solid reviews, but neither was highly rated, and it’s unclear what their audience figures were.
