After 46-year-old actor Nathan Lee Chasing Horse was arrested on sexual assault charges in Las Vegas, Twina Nation police are encouraging local victims to come forward.
Chasing Horse as Smiles-a-Lot, a member of the Sioux tribe, in the 1990 Kevin Costner film dance with wolvesallegedly sexually assaulted and trafficked Indigenous girls for 20 years.
The crime allegedly occurred while Chasing Horse was working as a medicine man conducting healing ceremonies and hosting spiritual gatherings.
In October 2022, the Associated Press reported that a tip from the public spurred an investigation into Chasing Horse, believed to be the leader of a cult known as The Circle, with police identified as victims. The sexual allegations are said to have been made in Montana, South Dakota and Nevada.

Chasing Horse was charged with:
- sexual assault on a child under the age of 16;
- 2 counts of sexual assault.
- Two counts of adult sex trafficking.When
- child abuse/neglect
Twina Nation Police, located just west of the city of Calgary, said Wednesday that it is working with Alberta’s police partners, including the Calgary Police Department, as part of the provincial investigation.
In a statement released Wednesday, a Tuina police official said, “We believe other victims may want to come forward.” We are working with a dedicated Crown Prosecutor to further scrutinize all assault files and ensure all victims have a voice.
“There is no statute of limitations for sex crimes in Canada and we encourage anyone who is a victim of a serious crime to report it, even if it has been years since the incident.”
Calgary Police released the following statement Wednesday afternoon regarding Chasing Horse’s arrest.
“Victims of sexual assault are encouraged to report it to their local law enforcement agencies. We would also like to remind them that in Canada there is no statute of limitations on reporting sexual assault. All victims should feel comfortable calling the police and contacting resources provided by the National Center for Truth and Reconciliation or community organizations such as the local Awo Tahn Healing Lodge Society or Calgary’s Aboriginal Friendship Center.
