PlayStation 5 Boasts Best Quarter Yet After Huge Increase in Sales

Sony’s video game division is experiencing its best quarter since the launch of the PlayStation 5, boasting significant increases in console sales and first-party software.

as revealed in Sony’s 2022 third quarter financial results, PS5 had its best selling quarter ever, with 7.1 million consoles sold in the three months ending December 31, 2022. This allowed the console to sell 12.8 million units during fiscal year 2022, with 32 million units shipped since launch.This is a 34% year-on-year increase, and the supply issues that once plagued the console have become It shows what may be behind us.

The PS5’s success prompted Sony to raise its annual sales target from 18 million to 19 million units.

Sony’s Game & Network Services segment posted revenue of ¥1,246.5 billion, up 53% year-on-year, and operating profit of ¥116.0 billion, up 25% year-on-year. Not only is this the best quarter of the year, but it’s also the best quarterly result of the PS5’s entire lifespan.

Sony has similar good news for console sales, too. First-party game sales increased significantly in the third quarter. Of his 86.5 million games sold, 20.8 million were first party. Of which 11 million he was the god of war Ragnarok.

PlayStation Plus subscribers increased slightly from 45.5 million to 46.6 million. While he hasn’t returned to his peak user count of 48 million, the service’s monthly active users have increased to 112 million. His PS Plus revenue also increased for the second quarter in a row, likely due to his top PS Plus plan subscribers.

It was a strong quarter for PlayStation. But while supply issues don’t seem to hold the console back, it certainly does prevent it from achieving the same numbers as its predecessor.By this point in its lifecycle, PlayStation 4 shipments are Slightly below his 38 million units.
