PSA: Gmail’s new package tracking interface is now live if you know where to look

Gmail’s iOS and Android apps have been updated with a new interface. This makes it easy to see where your package is being transported and when it will arrive. The feature was announced last November and Google said it was coming “within the next few weeks,” but it was only spotted by: 9to5Google When XDA-Developer past few days. This feature is currently opted in, so it’s easy to miss if you don’t know where to look. Sure enough, after enabling this feature in Gmail’s iOS app, I was presented with a new shipping tracking interface for my recent eBay purchases shipped via UPS. The new interface highlights items as they’re delivered on Gmail’s main inbox screen, and provides a more detailed view when you tap the email itself. In contrast, the old interface did not display tracking information in the main inbox view (beyond what retailers might include in the email subject line), and tapping hyperlinks in emails I need to show tracking information.

This feature does not appear to be supported by all shipping services. It’s working for orders shipped by UPS in the UK, but it doesn’t seem to appear for similar UK-based orders shipped via France-based shipping company DPD, or for a colleague based in the Netherlands.
