Gmail’s iOS and Android apps have been updated with a new interface. This makes it easy to see where your package is being transported and when it will arrive. The feature was announced last November and Google said it was coming “within the next few weeks,” but it was only spotted by: 9to5Google When XDA-Developer past few days. It’s unclear exactly when it rolled out, but it looks like the feature is now available if you know where to look.

This feature is currently opted in, so it’s easy to miss if you don’t know where to look. Google’s original blog post announcing the feature I had a screenshot of the prompt The Gmail app asks if you want to turn the feature on, but for now, it seems most people have to dig into the app’s settings to enable it. On iOS, the “Package Tracking” toggle can be found in the “Data Privacy” menu, while on Android there is a toggle with the same name in the “General” settings section. according to android police.

The old interface (left) and the new interface (right) displayed at the top of an email.

Sure enough, after enabling this feature in Gmail’s iOS app, I was presented with a new shipping tracking interface for my recent eBay purchases shipped via UPS. The new interface highlights items as they’re delivered on Gmail’s main inbox screen, and provides a more detailed view when you tap the email itself. In contrast, the old interface did not display tracking information in the main inbox view (beyond what retailers might include in the email subject line), and tapping hyperlinks in emails I need to show tracking information.

Gmail can now pull delivery information and display it directly in your inbox. Please note that the subject of this eBay shipping confirmation email is “Your order has been shipped”.

This feature does not appear to be supported by all shipping services. It’s working for orders shipped by UPS in the UK, but it doesn’t seem to appear for similar UK-based orders shipped via France-based shipping company DPD, or for a colleague based in the Netherlands. Is the Dutch courier PostNL. Google previously said the interface would be supported by “most major U.S. carriers.”

Still, when it works, Gmail’s new package tracking feature seems like a neat little feature and a no-brainer to turn on.
