The Sony Group’s latest gadget is a set of wearable motion trackers designed to bring users to the metaverse on their mobile phones.
The new Mocopi system consists of six packs worn on the user’s wrists, ankles, head and waist, and is used to animate avatars within various metaverse apps on Android phones and Apple iPhones. Priced at 49,500 yen ($360), the Mocopi kit, which launches in Japan in January, adds to the company’s virtual and augmented reality efforts.
“We’re calling this a Metaverse product rather than a VR peripheral because we expect the virtual world to blend more with the real world,” said Aimi Takeshi Aimi, senior manager of Sony’s motion business group on Wednesday. said at a demonstration event. “In the future, people will access the Metaverse without head-mounted displays. We didn’t want to limit the use of the product to just his VR users.”
