THUNDER BAY – Police have charged a Thunder Bay man with arson in connection with a house fire in January.
Thunder Bay Police officers were first dispatched shortly after 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15 to report a fire at a residence on the 200 block of Ambrose Street.
Firefighters had already arrived at the scene. In a release issued Wednesday, TBPS said police were also dispatched “due to the suspicious nature of the fire.”
Police said the fire burned down two large piles of trash outside the door of the house before spreading to the deck and walls around the entrance to the house.
As a result of the investigation, police charged a 48-year-old Thunder Bay man with 1 count of arson (disregard for life) and 1 count of arson (damage to property).
The man was arrested and taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.
He appeared in bail court on Wednesday and was detained at a future court date.
