Donald Trump lashed out at ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos with profanity after asking him out in a 2016 interview about Russia.

The book The Confidence Man by Maggie Haberman of The New York Times details a surprising behind-the-scenes episode that happened after Stephanopoulos conducted a sit-in interview with then-presidential candidate Trump.

Haberman’s book is due out Tuesday, but CNN has obtained an excerpt detailing the affair between Stephanopoulos and Trump.

When the cameras were off, Haberman wrote in the book, “Storm clouds covered Trump’s face.”

“Trump summoned ABC’s producers to a small area off-camera, where Trump was surrounded by Secret Service agents and yelled, ‘That’s a bull,'” Haberman wrote.

ABC News producer John Santucci asked what parts of the interview Trump was referring to.

“Russia,” Trump replied, according to Haberman. “Follow-up to 8 fucking kings — are you kidding? It’s like asking if you hit your wife. You ask me once. Then did I hit her with a baseball bat or a golf club?” Please don’t ask me if I hit it with , it was bullish, you should fix it with an edit.

Haberman reported Trump called out Stephanopoulos after scolding Santucci.

As Haberman wrote, Trump referred to Russia and Stephanopoulos chuckled and said:

That made Trump angry.

“Are you kidding me! 18 f-king follow-ups — how many different ways do I have to say I don’t know the guy?” said.

Mr. Trump then walked away, Haberman writes.

ABC News declined to comment when asked about the matter on Wednesday.

The case is many years old, but it offers a stunning behind-the-camera look at how Trump handled the press, especially after his controversial TV interview.

Asked for comment, Trump spokesperson Taylor Gravitch broadly denied the reports. Mr Gravitch said the “coastal elite” were addicted to “boring books” from “unreliable sources”.

But Haberman has the most impressive reporting record on Trump. She has consistently broken news about Trump during his campaign and when he was in the White House, and she has continued to do so since his inauguration.
