Canada to skate for gold in women’s team pursuit

MILAN – Canada has advanced to the final of speedskating’s women’s team pursuit.

Valérie Maltais, Ivanie Blondin and Isabelle Weidemann won their semifinal against the United States by just over over four seconds to advance to the gold medal round against the Netherlands.

The Dutch beat Japan in the other semifinal by just over a tenth of a second.

Maltais, Blondin and Weidemann won gold in 2022 in Beijing over Japan.

Maltais has already claimed an Olympic medal at the Milan Cortina Games with a bronze in the women’s 3,000 metres.

Canada’s long-track team has earned two bronze medals with Laurent Dubreuil reaching the podium in the men’s 500 metres.
